SRT to speech: turn timed subtitles into a voiceover

An SRT file contains subtitle text and timecodes, not recorded sound. Voixie converts subtitles to voice: the text becomes generated speech, and the subtitle timing is used to build a voiceover you can save as MP3 audio. This is useful when your script is already translated or you want spoken narration from captions.

How to convert SRT subtitles to speech

  1. 1.

    Check the subtitle file

Upload a valid .srt file. Check that cues are in chronological order and that names, punctuation and the spoken language are correct. This tool accepts SRT; convert other subtitle formats to SRT first.

  2. 2.

    Select the language and voice

Choose a supported speech engine, language and voice. The text is read as supplied: translate the subtitles first if you need speech in another language.

  3. 3.

    Listen and adjust crowded cues

Preview the generated audio against the subtitle timeline. A long sentence in a short cue may sound rushed; shorten the text or allow more time before you save the voiceover.

SRT to speech questions

Is SRT to speech the same as video dubbing?

SRT to speech starts from text and timecodes you already have. Video dubbing starts from recorded speech and can include transcription and translation before speech generation.

Does this tool translate the SRT text?

This converter reads your subtitle text. To create a voiceover in another language, translate and review the subtitles first, then choose a voice that supports that language.

Can generated speech fit every subtitle timecode exactly?

Not always. Speech length depends on the language, voice and amount of text. Preview the result and edit crowded cues instead of assuming every sentence will fit naturally.

Which languages can SRT to speech read?

45 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Hindi, Arabic, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Filipino, Tamil and Urdu. Burmese and Khmer are not available yet. The subtitle text must already be in the language you select.
