Speech to text: transcribe audio and video into subtitles
Voixie turns recorded speech into text and ready-to-use subtitle files. Upload audio or video, or import a YouTube or Google Drive link; the spoken language is detected automatically and each line can be labelled with its speaker. When the job finishes, download the transcript as TXT, SRT or VTT, or as subtitle files split by speaker.
How to transcribe audio or video with Voixie
- 1.
Upload or import the recording
Upload an audio or video file up to 500 MB, such as MP3, M4A, MP4 or MOV, or paste a YouTube or Google Drive link. The maximum length depends on your plan: 5 minutes per file on the Free plan.
- 2.
Choose the engine and speaker detection
Voixie Precision, based on ElevenLabs Scribe, is the default: it recognises 99 languages and detects the spoken language automatically. Turn on speaker detection for interviews and podcasts so each line shows who is speaking. Other engines are available for specific needs.
- 3.
Review and download the subtitles
Transcription runs in the background and you get an email when it is ready. Open it in your history, check names and technical terms, then download TXT, SRT, VTT or speaker-separated subtitle files.
Speech to text questions
How much does transcription cost?
1 credit per minute of audio, billed in 15-second steps. Connecting your own ElevenLabs key gives 50% off. If a transcription fails, the credits are refunded automatically.
Can it tell different speakers apart?
Yes. With speaker detection on, lines are labelled by speaker and you can also download separate subtitle files for each speaker. Setting the expected number of speakers helps; overlapping speech is harder to separate.
Does it translate the subtitles?
No. This tool writes down what is said in the original language. To get subtitles in another language, translate the SRT file with the translation tool, or use dubbing if you need translated speech.
Can I make subtitles from a YouTube video?
Yes. Paste the YouTube link instead of uploading a file. Voixie transcribes the speech and gives you TXT, SRT and VTT files; your plan's length limit per file still applies.
