Remove silence from video and audio automatically

JumpCut finds the quiet parts of a recording and cuts them out, so talking-head videos, lectures and podcasts move faster. Upload a file or import a YouTube or Google Drive link, set how quiet counts as silence, and Voixie renders a tighter MP4 or MP3. It also creates timeline files for Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Shotcut, so you can keep refining the cuts in your editor.

How to remove silence with JumpCut

  1. 1.

    Add your recording

Upload audio or video, such as MP4, MOV, MP3 or WAV, or paste a YouTube or Google Drive link; YouTube imports can be trimmed first. Video files can be up to 1 GB and audio files up to 500 MB. The maximum length depends on your plan: 10 minutes on the Free plan.

  2. 2.

    Set the silence threshold

Anything quieter than the volume threshold counts as silence. The default is -30 dB, and -30 to -40 dB suits most voice recordings. A safety margin, 0.2 seconds by default, keeps a little air before and after speech so words are not clipped. You can also list time ranges to always keep or always remove.

  3. 3.

Render and open it in your editor

The job runs in the background and you get an email when it is ready. Play the result in your history, or import the XML, FCPXML or MLT timeline into your editor to adjust individual cuts.

JumpCut questions

How is JumpCut priced?

1 credit per minute, billed in 15-second steps. The charge is based on the length of the file you upload, not the shorter result, and it is taken when the job finishes.

Will it remove breaths, music or background noise?

JumpCut decides by loudness only. Quiet breaths may be cut, but a music bed, room noise or loud breathing can stay above the threshold and keep a section. A higher threshold, such as -25 dB, cuts more; a lower one, such as -40 dB, cuts less. Check the result before publishing.

Can I review individual cuts?

Not inside Voixie: there is no cut-by-cut review before rendering. For precise control, import the timeline file into Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Shotcut and adjust the cuts there.

Does JumpCut remove filler words or bad takes?

No. JumpCut cuts by loudness only: silence and long pauses go, but filler words such as "um" and repeated takes stay. Voixie Edit reads the transcript to remove retakes, fillers and dead air.
